View NW of sandstone rock face SE of Merlin's Well on Alderley Edge wooded escarpment, Cheshire: the cliff may be the result of quarrying. The area is designated an SSSI for its biological & geological interest, and rich in myths & legends, used most notably by writer Alan Garner in his The Weirdstone of Brisingamen series of novels. King Arthur and his knights are said to lie sleeping in a magic cave adjacent to the well, and once bought a white horse from a local farmer. A National Trust property.
