Robert Falcon Scott (1868-1912), British explorer, on board the Terra Nova sailing ship in New Zealand in 1910. He is on the bridge of the ship before the final departure to Antarctica from Port Chalmers, New Zealand, on 29 November 1910. The British Antarctic Expedition (1910-1913) was also known as the Terra Nova Expedition after the ship that supplied and brought the explorers to Antarctica. Led by Scott, a shore party of 33 spent two seasons exploring on and around the Ross Ice Shelf. Scott and four others died in 1912 returning from their journey to the South Pole.
