The lower wings admit likewife of materialvariation in the number as well as magnitude of the black fpots; inhaving more or lefs of the blue fubocellated fpace in the center; orin being encircled by a narrow yellow border, an appearance it fome-times, though rather rarely, exhibits. The Caterpillar is often found in gardens, and feeds on the lettuce,nettle, &c. When apprehenfive of danger it rolls itfelf up like ahedgehog. In May it becomes a pupa, and the latter end of Juneor early in July the Moth is produced. PLATE.
