Period Sea-front houses and cottages on Beach Street, Deal Kent, including the former site of "The Deal Cutter" Public House.

House, probably originally part of a larger house later subdivided into three. Probably of C18 origin but refronted in the early to mid-C19. Brick, stuccoed with tiled roof and small brick chimneystack to the ridge and cemented large chimneystack to the rear. PLAN: It appears from the roofline to have been originally part of a larger house with Nos. 171 and 175. It is of two storeys and attics with two windows to the principal front. EXTERIOR: The north or entrance front has a large three-light dormer with six panes to each light, moulded cornice and end pilasters, providing a lookout to sea. The parapet has stone coping and the first floor windows are 12-pane sash windows in moulded architraves. The ground floor has a left side six-pane sash window with louvred wooden shutters secured by unusual iron catches in the shape of a sailor's head with straw hat. The right side doorcase has pilasters and cornice and a C20 door. There is a stuccoed plinth. The south side is gabled. INTERIOR: Not inspected. HISTORY: By the 1872 Ordnance Survey map No. 173 is shown in separate ownership from the adjoining properties. More recently, Nos. 173 and 175 were in the same ownership.
