Haskin Rutgers University, 'lew Briuis-'.cLck, 1. -J. At the 1S'2|9 neetings of the National Shellfisheries Association in Old Point Conifort a report was presented giving the results of the first two years studies of the growth of Venus mercenaria in various New Jersey waters. These studies have been continued and extended and results through 19^0 v;ill be suiunarized here. In the 19ll9 paper niethods vere described by which, in one grovring season, it was possible to construct a composite growth curve for a Venus population. The basic assumption in using such a curve is that the popu- lation will enjoy a succession of identical grovrth seasons. Even though this does not occur, the method is convenient in comparing grovrth rates for different areas and for the same area from season to season. This is illustrated in the figures which follow. All of the grovrth curves discussed here are calculated on the basis of planting seed quahaugs averaging 10 grams in weight CAPE SHORE CALCULATED GROWTH CURVES. 2 3 4 YEARS AFTER 5 6 PLANTING Figure 1.
