Longhouse, Hlk'yah Llnagaay, Windy Bay, Lyell Island, BC


Hlk'ya GawGa (Windy Bay) on Lyell Island, the site of the former village of Hlk'yah Llnagaay, was the site of a logging protest that led to the protection of the area and the creation of Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site. A Haida longhouse with circular entry door was built at Hlk'yah Llnagaay to house people taking part in the logging blockade at Windy Bay (Hlk’yah GawG̱a) starting in 1985, Lyell Island (Athlii Gwaii), Haida Gwaii, BC.
