Some arealmost hardy here, and do well if slightly protected withleaves or straw, while a little further south they stand thewinters with no protection whatever. If the plants aretaken up in the fall and trimmed back, and put in earthin a box, in a cool cellar, with just water enough to keepthem from shriveling, they will come out fresh in thespring, and start into bloom in a very short time. Aspot plants in winter, varieties should be selected that areadapted to the purpose. The
