An early Medieval military spear inlaid with niello 8th-9th century. In excavated condition, the head with slender leaf-shaped blade of flattened diamond section, both sides inlaid centrally with three concentric niello rings enclosing a single pellet, a similar inlaid pattern above, of two rings, a pair of small single rings at the base, and faceted socket inlaid with a pattern of three close-set niello linear bands about the neck.
