Weighing brain. View of a female technician in an autopsy room weighing a human brain as part of an autopsy (post-mortem). An autopsy is a complete physical examination of a dead body, usually to find the cause of death. In cases where the death was suspicious or unnatural, an autopsy may be required by law; or it may be carried out to further knowledge of the disease responsible. During an autopsy all major organs are weighed in this way. Their weights are recorded and included in the final report.
