From 59th Street to 110, and between Fifth Avenue and Central Park West , extending this great box of vegetation , which is a lung for the city of New York. Central Park Bike Rental is a company that rents bikes inside the park to explore it thoroughly. Central Park came to the large increase in population that New York had experienced in the early nineteenth century and the absence of a place of recreation. Delegates of the city, aware of this problem , bought between 1853 and 1856 some land in downtown Manhattan for $ million, with the idea of building a large public park . Work began in 1858 , led by architect Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted landscape , and lasted for twenty years. The project was a challenge for designers to be putting up a rocky , swampy and muddy to make it a park where 4 million trees , shrubs and ground plants would be planted , and 36 bridges, 7 lakes , 101 acres of gardens would be constructed forest and 55 . To preserve the authenticity of the landscape and nature, the architects pushed for a law which could not be modified in the future the original design of each area of the park was created.
