Alexander Chavez, an unmanned aerial system maintainer assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 162 (Reinforced), 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) receives the Empire State Marine of the Week award from Navy Capt. Todd Vandegrift, captain of San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS New York (LPD 21) March 27, 2018. Lance Cpl. Chavez, from Erie, Colorado, has contributed to over 100 maintenance man hours in the successful completion of 20 maintenance actions since going underway to include daily turnaround inspections on unmanned aircraft, and the system’s support equipment while deployed to 6th Fleet area of operations. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
