Neophasia menapia (butterfly) Senecio jacobaea (flower). A beautiful black and white butterfly with a 2-3” ( cm) wide wingspan. Lives in and around coniferous forests. Top of wings mostly white, underside has very noticeable black. ” wingspan. Top is bright white; the forewing has a black costal margin and apex. The underside of the hindwing has veins outlined in black. The hindwing of the female has red edges. In this photo, the butterfly is on Tansy Ragwort.
