Trygve Lie, General Secretary of UN, with his family, Stockholm, Sweden, 10 August 1949. Lie (1896-1968) served as Foreign Minister of Norway from 1941 until 1946, when he was appointed the United Nations' first Secretary General, a post he held until 1952. He married Hjørdis Jørgensen in 1921 and they had three daughters, Sissel, Guri, and Mette.
