Thelength-strings shall be woven to within two inches oftheir termination, so that the ball cannot catch in themeshes. Metal of any kind shall not be allowed uponthe crosse; splices must be made either with string orgut. RULE IL THE BALL. The ball shall be India-rubber sponge, not less than7% nor more than 8 inches in circumference and 41/2. LACROSSE GOAL NET Spaldings Athletic Library 69 to 5 ounces in weight. In matches it shall be furnishedby the home club, and shall become the property of thewinning team. RULE III. FIELD AND GOALS. Section 1. Each goalshall consist of two poles6 feet apart, and 6 feethigh out of the ground,joined by a rigid topcross-bar. The poles mustbe fitted with a pyramid-shaped cord netting (as shown in sketch) of not morethan IY2 inches mesh, which pyramid shall extendand be fastened to a stake in the ground at a pointseven (7) feet back of the center of the goal, and thesaid netting shall be so made as to prevent the passage gj^e ofof the ball put through the goal from the front, and the Field,bottom of the netting must be held close to the groundwith tent pegs or staples.
