The John Dory has several common names including “Peter’s fish”, “'Martin's Fish’“and St Pierre” . It has a wide distribution range from the East- Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean and Indo-Pacific region. The typical laterally compressed body has an big spot on each side which is believed to be a defence strategy against potential predators. John Dories prey on smaller groups of fish and sometimes cephalopods and crabs. They are generally encountered solitary close to the sea bed. The Latin name Zeus faber derives from the Greek god Zeus. This picture was taken at the Blue Hole in Gozo (Malta), which lies within the Marine Protected Area of Dwejra and is on o the most popular dive destinations in the Mediterranean Sea.
