A loch and reservoir, Loch Moy (also known as the Laggan Reservoir) lies on the boundary between the districts of Lochaber and Badenoch & Strathspey in Highland Council Area. Linked by a section of the River Spean to Loch Laggan to the northeast and often considered to be part of that loch, Loch Moy is retained behind the impressive 274m (900 foot) concrete wall which comprises the Laggan Dam, built in 1931 as an extension of the Lochaber Hydro-Electric Power Scheme. When full, the reservoir contains 40 million cubic metres of water, which is drawn off through a (14-foot) diameter tunnel, some 2¾ miles ( km) in length, to Loch Treig. The remaining water flows westward from the Laggan Dam as the River Spean, through Glen Spean towards Roybridge.
