A Northern train approaches Parbold station in West Lancashire. The train is on the Wigan to Southport railway line, which passes through the picturesque village of Parbold in West Lancashire. On a warm Saturday morning, the 28th of May 2016 the train from Manchester Victoria approaches Parbold, controlled by semaphore signals worked from “Parbold Cabin” Once the train has rounded this bend it has a long straight stretch of line ahead of it that continues past Burscough. A beautiful late summer morning, under blue sky’s. (DMU is short for Diesel Multiple Unit, a train consisting of carriages that are linked together but there is no locomotive to provide power for the train. There are diesel engines fixed under the floor of the carriages that drive the train along)
