The March Racing team was founded in 1969 by Max Mosely, Alan Rees, Graham Coxer and Robin Herd as a constructor and manufacturer of customer Formula 1 cars in the UK, with a production factory based in Bicester, Oxfordshire. The Company found initial success with F1 through the design and manufacture of their first car, the 701, for Jackie Stewart. Their early strides in the Formula failed and faltered due to the need for constant development and redesign of more contemporary aerodynamic cars. In 1972 the company started to over shadow it’s production of F1 chassis and began making great strides in F2 and F3 cars. This area of expertise becoming what the company is now renowned for. Throughout the 1990’s March was slowly bought out and dispersed to several individuals and little was heard from them until 2009 under a new name, March when they attempted to enter into that year’s season of F1. Unfortunately they did not meet the strict criteria set by the FIA. Coincidently in 2009-2010 KW Motorsport Ltd (KWM) began work on the modern reincarnation of the March design, the 09R, for Sports 2000 races based on the 75S chassis 001. The 75S was the first car outside of Formula 1 that March conveyed a noticeable effort with in terms of design and construction, perhaps because of the impressive customer response to the earlier 74S. Great strides were made in improving the cars aerodynamics resulting in the cars resemblance to contemporary F1 models. The design incorporated a revolutionary full width aluminium monocoque , with much lower nose and modern suspension systems. The BMW 300bhp engine however still remained the most popular choice for the March the 75S arrived on the scene too late, with the cease of the 2 litre European sports car championship in 1975/76. The 5 cars and the 3 additional 76S made dispersed in Europe and Japan to compete in smaller races with minor less public successes.
