Baggs, Shenandoah Co., Va.: Says he saw Perpetual King- in bearing- on the originator's ground, with ninety bearing- canes in one patch. They are the strong-est heaviest canes heever saw— just loaded down with fruit; the most remarkable of all raspberries. This variety differs from all others, having- a mammoth cane, certainly heavy enoug"h to hold its load of fruit. One cane was cane of p. king raspberry, measured and its circumference was over four inches. The fruit grows in clusters of unusual size, rang-ing from 10 to 30 berries in a clump. Some stalks are just covered with fruit. The berry is black, of fine quality and larg-e size. Another remarkable feature is that it bears several crops in one season. The plants that are set the first season will bear fruit, if they are not pinched back. The big- crop comes in June. A g-ood half crop also yields in the fall, till frost kills it. Some hills made 12 quarts. The canes were loaded from the ground to the extreme ends of the branches. This new berry is the most prolific of all raspberries. It is all the orig-inator claims for Mr. R. , North Carolina: I visited Mr. Keller on the 22d of June, 1896, and to my surprise found growing on his place the largest and most productive black raspberry that 1 ever saw in all my travels, and I believe it to be the greatest ever offered. It certainly will be appreciated by all when once seen. George J.
