Monzonite. Polarised light micrograph of a thin section of monzonite, an igneous rock. Monzonite is medium-grained, containing components of feld- spar and plagioclase. Olivine is found as an accidental component. Here, the matrix consists mainly of olivine grains, recognised by the irregular shaped crystals with randomly oriented fractures. Specimen of rock obtained from Nyland, Sweden. Magnification: x8 at 6x7cm size.
