When water flows through silica-rich rocks, it washes away some of their iron minerals which it deposits elsewhere. They lend the rock wall behind the waterfall this unusual colour palette ranging from rusty red, through orange and ochre to brown, as visible in the Roetbachl stream. At this location a new mineral has been discovered â an iron-hydro-sulfate, called Schwertmannite.
