Kristine Elisabeth Heuch Bonnevie (1872-1948), Norwegian biologist. Bonnevie initially worked in marine biology, obtaining her doctorate in 1906, having studied under Arnold Lang, Theodor Boveri, and Edmund Wilson. She became Norway's first female professor, working at the Royal Frederick University (now the University of Oslo) from 1912 to 1938 (full professor from 1919). She worked on cytology and genetics, becoming the first director of the Institute for Genetic Research in Oslo (1916 to 1938). The first woman elected to the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (1911), she was appointed to the Order of St Olav in 1946.
