A heavy Southern German war chest, presumably Regensburg, 1st half of the 17th century. Rectangular chest of heavy iron plate, the exterior embossed with fine vine decoration between lightly cambered iron straps. A false lock on the front and moveable handles on the sides. Hinged lid with a later hasp. Central keyhole, the cover with a hidden catch release. Complex lock inside with an intricate mechanism and the original key. The lid locks with 16 bolts.
