A medieval copper alloy aquamanile (a water container or ewer) in the shape of a mounted knight. Found near Hexam on the banks of (or in ) the river Tyne and now believed to be in the British museum. It was was filled through the top of the helmet and emptied via a spout on the forehead of the horse. They were mostly used for the washing of hands at meal times when food was eaten with the fingers.
