(Continued on page 87.) . HARTFORD, CONN. The Market. Chrysanthemums are beginning to come into the stores in good quantities and meet a fair demand, although not of the best quality, being small. There are numerous pests this year. The aphis has been troublesome, due to the dry spell of September and October. Mums are selling at $18 to $30 per hundred wholesale and are retailing at $3 to $6 per dozen, a nominal sum. Various Notes. A few of the florists here are open until 9 p. m. Saturdays. One prominent florist said, "Why let the other fellow get it all? It certainly makes a long day for us when we work from early morning, but I must stay and get my share, although the amount of business I do at night hardly pays for the elec- tric lights used.'' The W. W. Thompson Co., on Main street. West Hartford, is getting its usual good early crop of mums, which find a ready sale. Several thousand bulbs will be planted by this firm this month, to take care of the ever-increas- ing retail trade.
