ILBUR GLENN VOLIVA, general overseer of the ChristianCathoHc ApostoHc Church in Zion, and John AlexanderDowies successor as head of the Church, was born in1870, near Newtown, Indiana. His father, a lawyer byprofession, occupied a farm near his place of practice, andGeneral Overseer Voliva lived on this farm until the com-mencement of his college career. After a five years coursehe was graduated from Union Christian College, at Meron, Sullivan county,Ind. At the age of nineteen he was ordained to the ministry in theChristian (sometimes called the New Light) Church. He served three years as pastor of the Christian Church at Linden,Ind., and one year as pa tor of the same denominations Church at LIrbana,111. Upon leaving LTrbana he pursued theological studies for a year in theseminary at Stanfordville, N. Y., during part of which time he suppliedthe pulpit of the Chestnut Street Christian Church in Albany, N. Y. Hisnext pastorate was at York Harbor — on the Maine coast — where herema
