Culmen straight and ridged; nostrils in a groove, covered by a coriaceous operculum, half exposed ; rictal and nasal bristles present, but feebly developed. Tip of wing formed by primaries 3-6. The scales in front of the tarsus fuse early into one scutum. Tail very short, less than two thirds of the wing. The pattern of the plumage, especially the black superciliary streak and the white tips on the secondaries, would alone suffice to remove this species from Pachy- cephala. Eaiu/e.
