For Outstanding Service. The Legion of Merit, shown above, has been awarded to Captain Charles W. Harwood, Coast Guard for "exceptionally meritorious performance" as commander of a Naval Task Force during the amphibious assault on Sicily. In addition to his duties as commanding officer of a Coast Guard manned combat transport, Captain Harwood commanded the Naval Task group which landed assault battalions directly on the beaches fronting Gela, Sicily.
