GLAZING STRIPS. 65 FIG For use with tliis method of glazing, Gassers glaz-ing strip is considered very valuable by many who havetiied it. It consists of a narrow strip of zinc bent intothe form of the letter Z, asshown in Fig. 40, wiiich isplaced between the panes sothat one leg of the Z is underthe upper panes, and theother over the under cracks between the glassand the strip should be filledwith white lead, or someother lasting cement, whichwill fasten them together, and thus make a tight jointwater-tight much longer than when the lead alone isused between the panes. If the strips are not properlylaid, or if they are not cemented securely to the glass, the leakage w^ill be muchgreater than when no stripsare used. Aside from theircost, and the labor of put-ting them in, the stripsobstruct a small amount oflight, but with large panesnone of these objectionsare of serious importance. 0. ITES PUTTYMACHINE.
