Penmon Priory Elizabethan dovecote, Penmon, Anglesey, Wales

Penmon Priory Dovecote, built by Sir Richard Bulkeley of Baron Hill, Beaumaris circa 1600. It is square in plan with a four sided dome roof made from corbelled stone, and topped with an hexagonal lantern. The Dovecote housed over 1,000 birds kept for their meat and eggs. The nesting holes inside were reached via a wooden ladder placed on a central circular stone pillar 12 ft high with stone steps. The door is in the north wall. Later farm buildings were built against the east wall of the dovecote.
