Harpy eagle on a branch of a tree. Harpia harpyja. Panama, Central America, tropical forest.
The harpy eagle is the largest and most powerful eagle found in the Americas, usually inhabiting tropical lowland rainforests in the emergent layer. It is the national bird of Panama who houses a special reservoir for them at the Soberania National Park. It has been hunted for years and currently the major danger it faces is the reduction of its habitats.
