Jekyll and Hyde story illustration. 1930s artwork illustrating the novella 'Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' (1886) by Scottish novelist Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson (1850-1894). This story is an account of strange events in London centred on the respectable gentleman Dr Henry Jekyll and the sinister character of Edward Hyde. It is eventually revealed that they are the same person, with the transformation (shown here) from Jekyll to Hyde effected by drinking a potion (glass at right). This artwork is from a 1930 edition, illustrated by Sydney George Hulme Beaman (1887-1932).
