His blooms are always right up in the front in winning at the dahlia shows. He has picked out for me the best of the newer varieties that have been proven to be good doers practically everywhere. There are many varieties of dahlias that will do well under certain conditions but do not generally grow well with the average amateur who can't give them special care. The varieties I am listing are the most reliable ones that anyone can depend upon to do well under nearly all ordinarily good conditions. The letters, c g e, classifying the dahlia to its use; (c) Cut flowers, suitable for the florist, or for cutting for baskets, bouquets and decoration. Qualifications are good keepers with tight petals of suitable form and colors, on good stems. Keeping qualities have preference over size, (g) Garden varieties, suitable for landscape work, borders, beds and mass planting, free and early bloomers of showy colors, (e) Exhibition varieties, winners on the exhibition table, having qualities that score high in com- petitive judging, size, form, stem and color predominating. Roots and plants are shipped direct from the grower and regular postage is pre- paid but plants are all sent by special delivery for which a charge of 25 cents is made for each shipment.
