Bone cancer. Light micrograph of a section through a clear cell chondrosarcoma tumour. Clear cell chondrosarcoma is a malignant (cancerous) tumour found in the cartilage within or on the surface of the long bones. This tumour was located at one end (epiphysis) of the thigh bone (femur). This cancer is most common in young adults, with more men affected than women. It is a rare cancer that is not very aggressive and so has a good prognosis. Treatment is with surgical removal of the tumour and surrounding tissue, often a limb needs to amputated.
