After sodoing, place the thumb on the face of one .if the thermo-piles and observe the direction of thedeflection of the galvanometer needle, then place thumb on face of the other thermo-pile, , leaving the first uncovered, and, if the deflection is in the opposite direction to that first ob-tained, the instruments are properly connected.
