DEERPARK, in the Parish of Qiiansboro, Countyof Galway, on the river Shannon in Irehind, isthe hirtliplace of the Rev. John Larkin, tlie secondpriest of the name who has Labored in tlie ministry inthe Cathohc chiuches of New York. HaA-ing passedthrough the grammar-school course, inchiding the classicsand mathematics, in his native place, he entered May-nooth College in 1843, where he completed his divinitycourse. At the instance of the Rev. John Kelly ofJersey City he made America the field of his missionlabors, and in 1848 presented his credentials to ArchbishopHughes, by whom he was kindly received. But, beinginduced to move into the interior of the country, he wasordained in Baltimore by Archbishop Eccleston, for theDiocese of Pittsburgh. Immediately after his ordinationhe was appointed by Bishop OConnor to fill the posi-tion of president of the seminary, during the temporaryabsence
