Ariadne in Naxos 1877, by Evelyn De Morgan (30 August 1855 – 2 May 1919); English Pre-Raphaelite painter. Ariadne in Greek mythology, was the daughter of Minos, King of Crete, She is mostly associated with mazes and labyrinths, due to her involvement in the myths of the Minotaur and Theseus. She eloped with Theseus who abandoned Ariadne sleeping on Naxos, and Dionysus rediscovered and wedded her.
