The foundation of a storm damaged house , totally destroyed, leaving behind nothing but a few tools, personal belongings a pile of debris in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The owners are left homeless. Coden, Alabama. Although Hurricane Katrina made landfall well to the west, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle were both affected by tropical-storm force winds and a storm surge varying from 12 to 16 feet (– m) around Mobile Bay, with higher waves on top. Sustained winds of 67 mph (108 km/h) were recorded in Mobile, Alabama, and the storm surge there was approximately 12 feet ( m). The surge caused significant flooding several miles inland along Mobile Bay.
