The only vernacularname so far reported for H. apiculata is resak, but this ishardly appropriate and should not be encouraged. Hopea resinosa Symington, nom. nov.: Balanocarpuspubescens Ridl., Fl. Gardens Bulletin, 279 This species was first collected in the Kuantan districtof Pahang by Forest Ranger Yeop, in 1919. Ridleyexamined this collection (of fruit only) and described it asBalanocarpus pubescens in 1922. Foxworthy, with addi-tional material, gave a more complete description in 1932. I have already discussed the systematic position of thisplant in loc. ext. I have stated that the species is a typicalmember of the Pierrea group of Hopea and is very closeindeed to Hopea pachycarpa (Heim) Sym. In making thetransfer to Hopea a new specific name must be given, Hopeapubescens being already occupied. Foxworthys description, together with the plate pub-lished with this paper, should provide adequate definition ofthe species. I might add some remarks concerning thespecies with which H. resinosa is most liable to be confusedin the herbarium, H. pachycarpa and H. all essential characters H. resinosa is almost identicalwith the former, but may be
