At the east end is the chapel, builtin 1621. The entrance hall is a noble room,measuring 38 ft. by 20 ft. There are a singularlyfine collection of portraits, and a good library,which fortunately escaped the fire of 1847. Thehouse stands in a nobly wooded park of some1200 acres. Within the park stands the 13th-cent.,but very much restored, parish church. Thereare traces of old wall-painting on the nave the south side of the chancel, and partly 150. EASTON, LITTLE—ELMDON in the south or Bourchier Chapel, is a handsometable tomb of grey marble, with a beautiful canopy ;on the slab are the very fine brass effigies, inlaidwith coloured enamel, of Isabel York (aunt ofEdward IV.) and her husband Henry Bourchier,first Earl of Essex, who died in 1483. There isalso a good brass effigy of Robert Pyn, priest, In this south chapel are also various costlyand interesting Maynard monuments, the chief ofwhich are those to Sir Henry Maynard (1610),secretary to Lord Burleigh, and to William, LordMaynard (1698).
