Neuron in the central nervous system affected by abnormal cleavage of APP (Amyloid Precursor Protein) to form the senile plaque (yellow). The tau protein normally stabilizes the microtubules of the neuron phosphorylises abnormally and forms entanglements (green): neurofibrillary degeneration (DNF). Cholinergic and glutamatergic neurons. Butrycholinesterases (orange), acetylcholinesterase (yellow) and NMDA (yellow) are targets for treatment.
