The two needles are thenbrought out through the tarsus and the skin, at a distanceof 4 mm. from one another, and the sutures tied on theouter side of the lid. Thus the tongue of tendon lies onthe outer side of the upper tarsus. Postoperative depressionof the eyeball, with corresponding vertical diplopia, whichsometimes follows the operation, has always disappearedafter a period varying from two weeks to five months atthe latest in all the operations of this kind that have sofar bee
