General Ta Mok (which means “Grandfather Mok” in Khmer), was the nom de guerre of Chhit Choeun (c. 1924 in Takéo Province – 21 July 2006 in Phnom Penh), a senior figure in the leadership of the Khmer Rouge. He was also known as “Brother Number Five”. He is believed to have been born into a prosperous country family from Takéo Province, as his house demonstrates.
