General Saint-Hilaire declared thatthe orders of the Emperor were positive; andthe sentence was executed at two oclock on thesame day on which it was pronounced. Theexecution of Palm served to stir up a feeling ofbitter hatred among the German people againstthe domination of the French, and aroused thegeneral indignation of Europe.
