Ascites. Distended abdomen in an 81 year old male patient. Ascites is the accumulation of fluid in the peritoneal cavity. Here it is a complication of heart failure in a diabetic patient. Treatment is of the underlying condition, but diuretics and draining the fluid can be used to reduce the ascites.
