Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of ependymoma cell (yellow) and a natural killer (NK) cell (pink). Ependymomas are rare tumours of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). They arise from the cells lining the cavities (ventricles) of the brain and the central canal of the spinal cord. NK cells are a type of white blood cell that recognise and destroy tumour and virus-infected cells. Magnification: x5,000 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
