Former President William H. Taft spent two or threedays in the cantonment in the latter part of February andspoke on two successive evenings before capacity audiences inthe Y. M. C. A. Auditorium on the diplomatic causes of thewar. Three months later Major General James D. McLaughlin,military attache of the British Embassy at Washington, andBrigadier General G. A. Trotter, head of the British MilitaryMission to the camps of the United States, paid a visit toCamp Sherman. S
