The vegetation consists chiefly of Psamma with low patches of Honckenga. (From photo. by E. Warming). the dominant species of this one dune at tlie head of Sandsbugt on Sando (Fig. 174) is tlie same as that on the dunes of the western Europe, namely Psamma arenaria (Psamma association). This very conspicuous plant has been found on the Færoes only in this sta- tion, and one may almost assume that it occurs in no other piaces. That Psamma is adapted in a special degree for life on the dunes is well knowai, and this has been confirmed by F. Buchenau (1889) and E. Warming (1891) with regard to the shores of the North-Sea. The form found on the Færoes does not seem to differ in any re- spect from the typical species, but, as already mentioned, it does not appear to bear any fruit. I examined many piants during the last days of August 1897, and although there were numerous inflo-.
