The plates are designed slightly smaller thanthe fishing section of the rail, and larger than the section ofthe base, so that when they are riveted to the web of the rail,narrow spaces are left between head and tram and flanges ofplates and also around the base of the rail. These spaces arefilled with molten spelter. The result is that the plates arepractically galvanized onto the rail, thus doing away with elec-trical bonding. As a matter of fact the companys engineers. inadequate to hold the rails to gage, specially designed bracechairs are being introduced with the view of doing away withtie-rods. In these chairs there are a number of novel the ties leave the yard the chairs are attached to themby three lag screws.
