This is one of the smaller races of the species, the height at theshoulder ranging from about 33 to 36 inches, and the antlers beingusually smaller and simpler than in the northern —Mexico. In Northern Mexico this race is represented by the Texan M. v. texana, and in the extreme south by M. v. tolteca, which does not turn red.
